DOUBLE AND MUTIPLE STARS





1.      "Alpha", in "URSA MINOR", 1992, "POLARIS", "THE NORTH  STAR", sep. 18.4", mags., 2 and 9, distance 800 LY's.

2.      "ZETA", in "URSA MAJOR", 1992, "MIZOR", sep. 14.4", mags., 2.5 and 4., distance 70 LY's. Naked eye double with

        "ALCOR", also at a distance of 70 LYs, called the "HORSE AND RIDER", sep. 11'8".

3.      "GAMMA" in "LEO", 1993, "AL GEIBA", "THE LIONS MANE",  sep.4.4", mags., 2.5 and 3.5., distance 150 LY's.

4.      "BETA" in "ORION", 1993, "RIGEL", "LEFT LEG OF THE GIANT", sep. 9.4", mag., 0 and 7. "RIGEL" is a true supergiant. A

         blazing white hot star of intense brilliance, distance 1000 LY's.

5.      "THETA", in "ORION", 1993, "THE TRAPEZIUM", This is a  five star system, to be known as A, B, C, D and E. sep. A to B,

         8.7", B to D, 19.2", C to D, 13.3", A to C, 12.9". E has no distance of seperation to A or B given. Mags. are; A is 6.8, B is 6.7,

         C is 5.4, D is 6.3, and E is 11. Famous multiple star in the "GREAT ORION NEBULA", M42. All are at a distance of 1500 LY's.

6.      "ALPHA", in "HERCULES", 1993, "RAS ALGETHI", "HEAD OF THE KNEELER", "THE SHEPHERDS DOG", sep. 4.6", mags.

         3 and  5.5, red and green pair, distance 600 LY's.

7.      "NU", in "DRACO", 1993, sep. 61.9", mags., 5 and 5, both are at a distance of 125 LY's.

8.      "ALPHA", in "GEMINI", 1993, "CASTOR", "THE HORSEMAN", sep. 1.8", mags. 2.5 and 3.5. Teamed with "POLLUX" to

         form a nice pair of stars 4.5 degrees apart. They are known as "THE TWINS", distance 50 LY's.

9.      "EPSILON", in "LYRA", 7/16/93, "THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE", sep. 3.5", mags. 5 and 5. These two become doubles with

         sep. 2.8", mags. 5 and 6 for the northern component called "EPSILON 1", and sep. 2.6", mags. 5.1 and 5.3 for the

         southen pair called 'EPSILON 2", both are at a distance of 150 LY's.

10.    "ALPHA", in "CANES VENATICI", 7/16/93, "COR CAROLI", "THE  HEART OF CHARLES", sep. 19.4", mags. 2.9

         and 5.6, distance 120 LY's.

11.    "BETA", in "CYGNUS", 1993, "ALBIREO", "THE HENS BEAK", sep. 34.3", mags. 3 and 5.1. One of the priettiest doubles in

         the heavens. Gold and blue colors have nice a contrast. Bottom star of the "NORTHERN CROSS", distance 400 LY's.

12.    "ZETA", in "ORION", 2/3/94, "ALNITAK", "THE GIRDLE", sep. 2.6", mags 1.9 and 5.5. The eastern star of the three forming

         the "BELT OF ORION", distance 1500 LY's.

13.    "DELTA", in "ORION", 2/3/94, "MINTAKA", "BELT", sep. 52.8",  mags. 2.2 and 6.7. The westernmost star of the three stars

         that form the "BELT OF ORION", distance 1500 LY’s

14.    "NU", in "SCORPIUS", 8/6/94, sep. 41.4", mags. 4 and 6.5. Real pretty blue and gray colors, distance 600 LY's.

15.    "BETA", in "SCORPIUS", 8/6/94, "GRAFFIAS", sep. 13.7", mags. 2.6 and 4.9. Colors are blue and white, distance 800 LY's.
